5 FALL HOME DECOR IDEAS USING VINTAGE AND FENG SHUI THAT MAY SURPRISE YOU!
Adding mums to my garden for fall.
Are you excited that fall has arrived, or are you sad that summer is gone?
Personally, fall is my favorite season. I love everything about the change of seasons and with it comes some tweaking of decor. Here are 5 fall home decor ideas using both vintage and feng shui to bring out the coziness of the season while optimizing energy flow for a harmounious home.
1. TIME TO BRING OUT YOUR VINTAGE BASKETS
It’s cozy and adventurous all at once—perfect for fall Sundays as you dream up your next travels or outings.
What is more wonderful than the warmth of something handmade and woven? It centers us back to the feeling of harvests and calibrates us for the beauty of fall.
Also, baskets aren’t just for sitting around—use baskets to bring out the best activities of fall! On Sundays, find your favorite basket and head to the farmer’s market! Imagine the feeling of putting fresh apples, corn, and other vegetables in a beautiful woven basket instead of hauling around a bunch of plastic bags, or canvas tote bag (leave that for the summer months). And just like that tote bag, baskets are reusable and sustainable too!
If you to embrace the fall cliche, go a step farther and make a cornucopia with those harvested vegetables and fruits from the Farmers’ Market! Or go ahead and use baskets for indoor plants to put on a buffet or dining table. Plants in the dining space create energized moods for great conversations (Feng Shui tip)!
2. LIGHT UP THE NIGHT WITH VINTAGE CANDLESTICKS
Not liking the new long autumn nights?
An array of metal and wood candlesticks have gorgeous glow.
Often people tell me about how they dread the new dark nights.
How about you?
Well, whether you dread the nights or you enjoy the cool fall dusks, there’s a way to embrace the dark with light of your own—vintage candlesticks! The soft glow of lit candles makes things feel cozy and intimate and adds the luminescence of fire energy to a room. It can turn a depressing night into your own romantic fall evening. Imagine sipping tea next to those candlesticks with your favorite book beside you (or favorite person).
So why vintage?
I find the warmth of vintage patinated metals (pewter, brass, bronze) add to the beautiful mood. The different metals create different reflective glows and unique lighting effects. And mixing them with hand crafted turned wood candlesticks gives and interesting twist to an otherwise dark fall night! Use a metal tray also to contribute to your own special glow show.

3. USE VINTAGE PLATES TO HOST COZY INDOOR PARTIES WITH FRIENDS
Best design tip for the long fall nights: fill your room with your best friends!
Really, what better way is there to beat the fall blues than a party?
None!
If you are feeling down about the nights, then host a cozy indoor party. Use a mix of different vintage plates to make the night feel special.
Beautiful objects as simple as a plate can stimulate good conversation or add an intentional vibe to your party. Remember—creativity is infectious.

4. ADD VISUAL APPEAL WITH WARM PATINA METALS

After a long fall day of work, it just feels gratifying to come home to beautiful, warm objects that greet you. To make your entryway inviting after a long day of work—and earlier darkness—try adding warm patina metals to your home like soldered silver, hammered copper or aged brass. I love the look of mixing different kinds of metals together.
In feng shui, metal is associated with the west direction. Try placing some metal objects in that direction to symbolize the completion of projects that may have been accumulating throughout the year.
Fall is associated with the metal element in feng shui as we begin to turn inward, become dormant, and prepare for winter. As the leaves fall, metal symbolizes our power and strength as we begin to enter the long season of winter and finalize our year’s intentions.
Vintage metals create that special glow in the room, especially during sunrise and sunset as it shines—golden hour.
Simply Gorgeous!
5. PLACE SMOKY QUARTZ IN YOUR HOME OFFICE OR BEDROOM
Smoky quartz has that rich, luscious color of fall with it’s bronze sparkle and coppery tones.
This is the time of year when I bring out ample amounts of smoky quartz to place in my office or bedroom.
Just like sweeping away the cobwebs or old leaves, we also want to sweep away energy that no longer serves us well.
Use smoky quartz to cleanse your space and as a protective shield. Place the quartz at your bedside or office desk for protective energy.
In Feng Shui, crystals are associated with earth energy or the northeast or southwest directions. You can place smoky quartz crystals in those locations of your home for the grounding energy of earth.
If you really just need a simple way to make fall your friend, pick up some smoky quartz and feel the extra elemental support for the dark, but beautiful days.
