5 Best Home Christmas Party Ideas For Your 2023 Holiday Season

Christmas parties! Where would we be without them?

Forcing conversation with your least favorite coworker for 2 hours at the corporate party? Experiencing the dinner of a lifetime with your family? Experiencing the nightmare dinner of a lifetime with your family? Christmas has the unique ability to play on every emotion. Parties form the centerpiece to the holiday season.

Today, we’re offering our 5 Best Home Christmas Party Ideas to start new traditions, bring friends together, and make Christmas magic, magical in 2023.

  1. Ultimate Christmas Scavenger Hunt

When we look back on life, most of the best presents are experiences—so why not give a whole lot of them?

A tradition I’ve been dying to try is to have a party where friends and I create Christmas scavenger hunts for each other. It’s an easy and fun way to make unforgettable experiences for each other. Get together and pick partners (or go secret). Create a list of 3 places and clues for your friend or family member for them to follow in sequence. Make sure everyone blocks off time to do it so you’re not creating a hassle instead!

Here’s a sample:

  • Go to their favorite cafe to for them pick up a $30 gift card and favorite Christmas drink (on you). Leave the next clue for the cafe to give to your friend.

  • A clue directs them to their favorite nail salon for a mani-pedi. The next clue awaits there as well, for. . .

  • Tickets to a Christmas play/concert they’ve wanted to see with surprise tickets ready at will call. The next clue can be waiting for them there, also. You can also meet them there, as well so they’re not all by their lonesome ;)

Make sure you choose the right exchange friends for this and people who like surprises. If you do, it can make the memory of a lifetime.

2. Christmas Piñata Bash

This one is sure to be a smash.

Skip the Rage Room party and instead make your own joy time with your friends. This one is pretty simple and extremely fun. It might end up being your most famous holiday bash. It’s a great way to make the giving as memorable as the getting, and you can get a variety of fun gifts for people to include.

It’s easy:

  • Pick a friend who you will buy gifts for. Set a $pend limit.

  • Buy Christmas gifts for them to put in their piñatas! (Gift cards, socks, books, and other non-smashables)

  • Everyone brings their piñatas to the party filled with gifts.

  • Each person takes turns swinging at their piñata as their Christmas gifts fall out. Give an extra award gift to the first person to empty their piñata!

3. Christmas Karaoke Party

Sometimes the biggest musical disaster can be the best Christmas party.

Get your friends and family together to for the ultimate Christmas embarrassment-fest with Christmas Karaoke. Take turns doing karaoke to all your favorite Christmas songs. It’s super easy.

  • Gather your family together and get the speakers ready.

  • Drinks! Drinks! Drinks! 🍷 🍹 🥤

  • Take turns singing your favorite Christmas songs karaoke-style.

  • For a fun twist, add judges comments and give awards for best, worst, and audience favorite!

4. White Elephant Pajama Party

White elephant gifts?

Total classic.

Add a twist to this every-season-all-timer by making a theme and awards. For example, everyone has to try and find the ugliest-fugliest pajamas possible and wrap them up. Grab your favorite holiday hot chocolate for everyone to stop any gagging when you see fuzzy toesy pajamas. . .

  • Everyone buy, bring, and wrap the ugliest pajamas they can find

  • Sit in a circle chatting, drinking, and having an awesome time.

  • Draw numbers to decide the order you go in.

  • First person selects a wrapped gift and unwraps the pajamas

  • Next person, and every person after, gets to choose to either 1) Open a new gift or 2) Steal an already opened gift

  • Go around so everyone gets a least 2 turns

  • When finished, everyone gets stuck with their gift!

If you’re looking to take it to the next level, add a post-swap fashion show in so everyone can check out their vomitous new styles!

5. Royal Christmas Tea Time Potluck

Creative, active parties are super-fun and can make some of the best holiday memories, but often the single best holiday memory is relaxing with the people you care about. It’s also a perfect time to sit and dream.

So why not imitate royalty a little bit and add a little Britcore to your holiday party?

If you’re looking to love a relaxing time with your friends or family, set a time to all sit together and have tea (maybe even while watching your favorite Christmas movie). You can arrange for everyone to bring (or bake) a special tea-time treat to enjoy while talking. Or if you’ve had plenty of Christmas chatter, simply enjoy being all together as you watch little wisps of steam float up from your favorite Christmas tea.

  • Bring tea

  • Brings snacks

  • Sit

  • Sip

  • Enjoy ;)
