Have you thought about a special home design dream?

When I bought my 1917 craftsman stucco bungalow, I immediately saw the whole house as a project for my imagination. Most of all, I was excited to tackle the garage. It looked like a raw “car hole”, about as beautiful as any other car storage space (thankfully no old golf clubs haunting the shelves, at least). Wood, cement, debris, dust, and an attic-space with bare wood beams. Nothing framed. We did find newspaper clippings dated back from the 1960s and even some from the original homeowners in the 1920s.

We learned that this house was built by German immigrants and bootleggers (we have a fake mirror leading to an old speakeasy or bootlegger room in the basement—bring it on, coppers). I love every inch of it.

But even what you love can be improved by your dreams.

Getting started on a big design project can be pretty intimidating.

Where do you even begin?

Today we’re diving into the time of Jane Austen and Bridgerton to highlight Regency-style design. Recently, Regency and Regency-inspired furniture has continued its power renaissance thanks to these movies, books, and shows.

Few times are more beautiful than the solemn peace of winter. The days are darker but when we step outside, we walk in bright white worlds of snow. I love these days of bare trees and gray skies.

How do you make the most of winter days?

Many of us don’t like winter. It can make us feel hopeless and alone, or miserable. Slushy gray streets that wet our shoes is about the worst feeling I can think of. But that just means it’s time to change your perception of this wonderful and unique season.

With these tips, soon enough you’ll feel as free and bright as July.

Right now, as we’re looking back on 2023, highs, lows, and milestones, it’s also time to start looking at 2024. There’s so much I’m excited for, from completing existing client projects, serendipitous meetings with new clients, and finally completing my Coach House.
